KERNVILLE, CA., Wednesday, January 24, 2024 —
Fire managers in the Kern River Ranger District will
continue the Upper Kern Rx Burn today, Wednesday,
January 24, and tomorrow, Thursday, January 25. Last
week a total of 50 piles for 10 acres were accomplished
in one day. Progress will continue this week as a target
for 6 additional acres has been set by fire and fuels
management. These locations are high recreational
areas south of Coral Creek Campground and Resort. To
reduce wildfire risk in the summer, burning these piles
now lessens the fuel loading of the area.
The Upper Kern Rx burn comprises 50 target acres and
will be ongoing as weather and air quality permit. Burn
bosses communicate closely with the San Joaquin
Valley Air Pollution Control District and NOAA weather
services as they complete acreage. In addition, planning
prescribed burning takes close coordination and
communication with partner agencies to keep the public
informed and aware when smoke is visible.
Fire and fuels personnel work closely with the San
Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to monitor
and manage smoke production and reduce the impact
on communities. Visitors and residents can learn more
about smoke and air quality by visiting the San Joaquin
Valley APCD website at valleyair.org.
