Shepreneurs of Porterville: Silvia Santillan of Sweet Ride
My name is Silvia Santillán, I am from Visalia. I worked in the field picking fruits and I got very tired. One day something happened in my life and I went to work with a woman from 5 am to 3 pm. She paid me only $50 dollars and I would arrive home very tired at 5 pm. I asked the woman's husband if he could sell me a churro cart and he replied, "No, you can't because to have a churro cart or a fruit cart you need to have a large storage container and it costs $25,000." I lost hope, but I thought "when I do my taxes I'm going to save," and one day I'll buy one in Los Angeles. And I did it.
What I like about my business is that I am my own boss, and I don't work for anyone.
