FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Porterville, CA – May 9, 2024
The City of Porterville recognized Poor Richards Pizza and Bar as an Outstanding Business Honoree during the Porterville City Council Meeting on May 7, 2024. This award recognized the business’s contributions to renewing interest and increasing foot traffic to Downtown Porterville.
Originally established in 1971 and run by Mike Freeman since 1977, Poor Richards was purchased in September 2021 by Christian and Victoria Diaz and has continued the legacy of the iconic pizzeria. The Diaz family has implemented improvements like the addition of televisions, a fountain beverage machine and kegs for draft beers. All enhancements have been carefully curated to uphold the restaurant’s original charm. The original bar stools, the iconic sign, the historic brick wall alley, and the autographed poster from George Strait to Richard Freeman in the dining area have all been kept to honor Poor Richard’s rich history.
With a steadfast commitment to honoring tradition while embracing innovation, the Diaz family has not only preserved but enhanced the essence of Poor Richard’s Pizza, contributing significantly to the economic vitality of Downton Porterville. The Diaz family continues to uphold a tradition of community engagement by sponsoring local youth sports, hosting events, and fostering collaborations with neighboring small businesses.
The stewardship of this iconic establishment has been recognized for its dedication to preserving its legacy. Poor Richards has cultivated a welcoming environment that serves as a hub for the community to come together.
Please join the City of Porterville in congratulating Por Richard’s Pizza and Bar as this year’s first Outstanding Business Honoree!
