Community Champions: Porterville’s Nonprofits – Central California Family Crisis Center

Central California Family Crisis Center, Inc. is a multi-cultural organization which exists to protect individuals and families from domestic violence, economic deprivation, human trafficking, and homelessness by providing food, shelter, counseling, education, and other charitable services. The Family Crisis Center is a local non-profit organization that has been in our community for over 46 years, rebuilding lives by demonstrating care, concern, and compassion to those seeking assistance. We offer programs and services that most effectively meet the demands and needs of survivors of domestic violence, survivors of human trafficking, the homeless, at-risk families, and their children. In 2023, our shelter and transitional housing programs provided 7,411 shelter bed nights, serving 408 individuals, provided 10,370 case management services for Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, and chronic homelessness. From our Counseling Center, we assisted with 201temprorary restraining orders for domestic violence, provided 1,640 peer counseling sessions, diapers to 92 families, and food baskets to 249 individuals. In addition, we offer Anger Management Prevention, Batterers Intervention, Child Abuse Intervention, Domestic Violence 101/Seeking Safety, and Nurturing Parenting classes, with over 1,087 participants this past year. We also operate a thrift store, Treasures Thrift Store located downtown. Sales revenue from our thrift store helps supplement the shelter programs and agency services that are not funded by grants. All items that are donated at Treasures stay local, and benefit the community with proceeds that support our programs.  The Family Crisis Center relies on generous donations from our community to sustain our programs, provide essentials for our clients, maintain our locations, and cover other expenditures not funded by our grants.
