FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 2, 2024
The City of Porterville is excited to announce the grand opening of the new animal shelter and invites the community to celebrate this milestone with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony will take place on August 7, 2024 at 9:00 AM at the new animal shelter located at 185 North D Street. The shelter relocation has been a project which has been highly anticipated and the City is looking forward to having the facility centrally located for the community. The animal shelter has many amenities and features incorporated to offer modern and humane shelter for displaced animals. A modern facility will make it more efficient for staff to provide services for the animals and the new animal shelter offers a more accessible location for the public.
The project consisted of the remodeling of a 9,600 square-foot building that was once a bank, which was upgraded with many new amenities to the interior and exterior of the building. Features of the new facility include: meet-and-greet rooms are featured to allow interactions between the animals and their prospective adopting families, a dog park, and improvements to limit sound transmission from the facility. The lobby features a wall detailing the names of the many community members and businesses that have supported and continue to support and donate to the Porterville Animal Shelter. The cost of the project was approximately $7.2 million, was designed by Ra-Da Architects and was constructed by AMG & Associates, Inc.
