FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 12, 2024
The City is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant for the new Santa Fe Sportsplex! The grant has been awarded through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP) in the amount of $2.5 million. The ORLP program provides matching grants to cities for park projects in underserved communities, which helps reinvigorate existing parks and form connections between people and the outdoors.
The Santa Fe Sportsplex was approved by the Porterville City Council in 2022 as a new development for Downtown Porterville. The project will consist of constructing a new 12-acre multi-sports complex which will include ten (10) futsal court with lighting; two multi-sport courts with lighting, a restroom, landscaping including drought tolerant trees, drought tolerant plants, and solar lighting throughout. The overall project will also include six (6) pickleball courts, a large picnic gazebo, and an amphitheater. The sportsplex will run along the Santa Fe Byway trail, which has also been upgraded and will be opening soon. The Santa Fe Byway development not only will include the sportsplex but will also include the new community recreation facility on Fourth Street revitalizing this area for the community and providing more outdoor recreation opportunities for the youth.
The City is proud to be 1 of the 10 cities chosen across the U.S. to receive this grant. Having this facility built will not only create a new park for the community but will also provide more accessible recreation for Downtown Porterville.
