national Prescription Drug Take Back Day
It’s that time of year again to go through your medicine cabinets and discard unwanted prescription medications safely. On National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this Saturday, Oct. 26, you can discard unused and expired medications at two TCSO detention facilities:
- Bob Wiley Detention Facility, 36712 Road 112, Visalia
- South County Detention Facility, 1960 W. Scranton Ave., Porterville
Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue and can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. Most of the teenagers who abuse prescription drugs get them from family and friends and their home medicine cabinets.
Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment. This take-back program is the best way to dispose of old drugs.
The National Take Back Day happens twice a year. In April 2024, about 4,600 law enforcement agencies across the country staffed nearly 5,000 collection sites and collected 335 tons of unwanted medications.
